JOIN US!

We are always looking for motivated undergraduate and graduate students to join the lab. If you are interested in joining us as an undergraduate student, please provide the following information and we will contact you before the next semester begins. If you are interested in joining us as a graduate student, please apply through the psychology department (https://psychology.byu.edu/graduate) or the neuroscience center (https://neuroscience.byu.edu/prospective-graduate-students) during the next application cycle.

Here are the answers to a couple of the questions that are frequently asked about the lab.

How many hours should I expect to work in the lab?

You are NOT required to work a certain number of hours per week; however, based on Jared’s previous experience, the research assistants who worked between 5 and 10 hours per week had the best experience in the lab. Any fewer than 5 hours per week typically resulted in the research assistants spinning their wheels and not making much progress. Any more than 10 hours per week is typically not realistic, given your other responsibilities and obligations.

Are these paid positions?

There are paid positions. Typically they are reserved for students that have been in the lab for 6 months or longer. Jared is regularly applying for grant funding to pay students who work in the lab. Additionally, you can apply for your own grants. There are a couple of alternatives to being paid. The first is to apply for course credit. Typically psych majors will sign up for 1-3 credits of PSYCH 492R (or PSYCH 430R if they are looking for a capstone opportunity). Neuroscience majors typically sign up for 1-3 credits of NEURO 449R. The other alternative is to volunteer.

What kind of research can I do?

There are various projects that are in different stages of research. Current projects are also listed in the research tab.
